Formidable Magazine. What was your first creative drive?
An Wei. Most probably when I was a small child and I would draw from the magazines my parents lept around their restaurant.

F.M. Is there a defining moment that made you realize art was your thing?
An Wei. The moment I realized this is what I do best.

F.M. How would you define your work?
A.W. Metaphorical and sometimes auto-biographical.

F.M. Inspirational artists?
A.W. I love Zurbaran´s paintings and Passolini´s films.

FM: Did you have a plan for the studio layout, or did it grow organically?
A.W. My studio is the space where I spend all my day, so anything may happen in here, so not at all, I didn’t plan its lay out.

F.M. Would you say your studio setting influences your work?
A.W. Absolutely. Last year I had a very small studio so I made a lot of small pieces. Now, I have a bigger space so I can size up mywork, it’s as ismple as that.

F.M. Is the studio just a place for production or also inspiration is inherent to the studio space?
A.W. To me it’s only a production space because I pick up ideas everywhere, museums, films, clubs… My estudio is the place where I lock myself up and develop all my concepts.

F:M. How is a day in the life of An Wei?
A.W. I wake up and I pick up some food in supermarket in my way to the studio. I spent most of the day here, often times to around 11pm. then I usually go out to grab a beer or I just go home to watch a film.

F.M. Best and worst night out?
A.W. A good nigth out is when everythings goes just fine, and the worst possible nigth is when you are have something planned, but it just won’t happen for some reason. I don’t like to go back home without a “taste of victory”.

F.M. What do you love and hate about Madrid?
A.W. I like almost everything about it, but I hate summers here; nothing to do and way too hot.

F.M. What’s in your play list?
A.W. Johnny Cash, for me, he is the king of kings, Rone also, he is a very talented dj.

F.M. Our motto is “A life less ordinary”, what makes life less ordinary?
A.W. Everyday is a constant figth, so let’s make life something fun.
